blogroll
Generally, I insist that a business with a website also maintain a blog. In particular, a WordPress blog (see what Matt Cutts of Google has to say about it). Following are the reasons I believe a blog can be of spectacular benefit to your business.
1. Create a new channel of communication with your clients.
Every blog post will have a comment section, which allows your clients to be able to respond to your blog post. This is a great way to initiate new dialog with your client base and potential clients.
2. Personalize.
While I’m not suggesting for you to delve into personal issues, the blog is a good way to relate in a more human way to your clients. Especially, if you are not currently performing one-on-one in-person or over the phone communications.
3. Increase your web site traffic.
More content on your site will increase the chance of exposure via search engines, other blogs and/or websites linking to your blog.
4. Provide added value.
Through your blog, you can provide information that is of great value to your client base and your general audience. This gives your clients one more reason why they should remain loyal to your service.
5. Establish prestige and trust.
Sharing your expertise through your blog 1) shows your clients that you know what you are talking about and 2) gives them a reference point for all things related to your expertise.
6. You learn more while teaching through your blog.
It is well known that you can learn better by teaching what you know. In the process of conducting research for your blog, you will gain additional insight. Also, as others interact with your blog through questions, further insight will be gained.
7. New opportunities.
Over time, new opportunities will arise from new people reading your blog or an old client attaining a new idea from your blog post and commissioning you to help make it real. Those are just a few examples of how your blog can attract new opportunities.
If you already have a blog, please share your experiences here.

- ThinkingSerious: @rmg2768 Thanks for your comments and suggestions! When I tag action items with [A], I don’t...
- rmg2768: Evidently, the latest web view at Simplenote no longer needs the script I mentioned above, and works well...
- rmg2768: I like using “td” to prepend – it is easier to type, and doesn’t (usually) show up...
- ThinkingSerious: Oops … I misused the word allot (an actual word BTW) here .. fixed and thanks @morris.
