I had the fantastic opportunity to sit on a panel with a certified traffic generating machine (Micheal Dourasch) courtesy of Andrew Warner of Mixergy. Following are some tips from Micheal, from the notes I took, that will help you gain some quality traffic to your web sites.
- Get indexed in Google news.
- Include media in your posts:
- Photos ( be sure to include alt tags and captions)
- Graphics
- Embedded video (upload to a site like YouTube)
- Audio
- Use keywords from Google’s hot trends in your articles.
- Write content for high page ranked sites.
- Use a tickler file to write about recurring events at the right times.
- Screen shot everything for portfolio. (e.g. getting the number one spot for a particular keyword in a Google Search)
- Use Google alert to help you get relevant breaking news to write about.
- Promote your industry as a whole.
- Try to create unique media.
- Use wordtracker.com. ( the paid version)
- Get profiles in various social networks for your industry keywords, also do this for domains.

Thanks for the summary! Let me add a few clarifications… Use relevant keywords (like if a chiropractic office today was having a Cinco de Mayo special), include a photo in EVERY post (important), use good quality graphics when you can get them (lot’s of photographers on Flickr happy to share images for link credit), transcribe parts of audio to attract relevant inbound traffic. A tickler is a reminder system recently popularized by the GTD. You set up file folders for each day of the year (can be real or virtual files) and you put reminders into certain days. For example, two days before Mexican Independence Day, you could have a reminder that tells you to write a blog post on the subject. The key is to check the tickler each day.
